New releases Son of Sardaar 2 and Dhadak 2 are facing some stiff competition at the box office from movies like Mahavtar Narsimha and Saiyaara. The biggest problem regarding both of these sequels is that they are witnessing very low advance bookings.
Also, there is a lack of excitment among the audience to watch these sequels as well. On the other hand Saiyaara, a romantic musical drama continues to have its strong hold at the box office.
At the same time Mahavatar Narsimha surprised the makers with its unbelieveble stint at the box office. Both these movies have made the entire weekend quite challenging.
Two Bollywood sequels, ‘Son Of Sardaar 2’ and ‘Dhadak 2’, premiered in cinemas today. Earlier, the original ‘Son Of Sardaar’ had opened in the year 2012 with average success, though its box office journey was hampered due to a clash with Shah Rukh Khan’s romantic drama ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’
Once remembered as one of the fiercest Diwali weekend battles, the earlier box office clash even led to a public fallout between Ajay Devgn and YRF. Although the current situation isn’t as intense, ‘Son Of Sardaar 2’ has competition in ‘Saiyaara’, a two-week-old YRF hit starring newcomers.
The film has now managed to build a strong buzz and has earned ₹270 crore at the domestic box office so far. But ‘Saiyaara’ isn’t the only title putting pressure on the newly released films.
Son Of Sardaar 2 Movie Review
The weekend is proving to be a steep climb for ‘Son Of Sardaar 2’ and ‘Dhadak 2’. With ‘Saiyaara’ still running strong at the box office, the sudden success of ‘Mahavatar Narsimha’ has only increased the pressure.
Interestingly, the latter’s momentum has started slowing down the collections of ‘Saiyaara’ as well. Advance bookings for the newly released sequels show minimal traction.
‘Son Of Sardaar 2’ kicked off with 28,000 tickets sold in advance, compared to 18,000 tickets for ‘Dhadak 2’.
Launched on approximately 2,500 to 3,000 screens, the film is eyeing a Day 1 collection of around ₹6.5–7 crore. Its weekend trajectory will likely depend on how audiences receive it.
Looking at the current performance, it can be said that ‘Son Of Sardaar 2’ nor ‘Dhadak 2’ could capitalize due to the lack of compelling promotional content. With no major buzz around their release, audience turnout has been minimal.
Advance bookings are dull across the board, with ‘Son Of Sardaar 2’ slightly ahead. Ironically, ‘Mahavatar Narsimha’ may outperform it on its second Friday, highlighting the weak opening response.
Though Box Office India hints that ‘Dhadak 2’ might attract youth interest this weekend, following the rise of ‘Saiyaara’, this doesn’t assure the success at the box office. Well, most audience remains unchanged in their expectations: they respond best to strong content and compelling narratives.
If you look at the release time of both these films, it can’t be said it to be worse. These films needed a quiet period to fight for space and attention, but instead they’re releasing in the middle of strong competition. If only one of them was releasing this weekend, it might have gotten better screen time.
Unless things drastically improve, both ‘Son Of Sardaar 2’ and ‘Dhadak 2’ are likely to be outperformed by ‘Saiyaara’ and ‘Mahavatar Narsimha’ this weekend. So far, it’s been a challenging ride for the new releases.
The film also brings together a diverse cast including Deepak Dobrial, Kubra Sait, Ravi Kishan, and Mrunal Thakur, in their respective pivotal roles.
