Adnan Sami Reveals Pakistan Refused Him Entry for Late Mother’s Funeral

This is what Adnan Sami shared with India TV that his mother’s death came as a shock a few months ago. She had no known health issues. Afterward, he sought approval from authorities in both countries to attend her last rites.

This is what Sami recalled, “I asked the Indian government if I could go. They said, ‘Since your mother passed away, you should definitely be there.’ They had no objections at all.”

The situation became painful when Pakistan refused his visa. Sami submitted his request but was rejected. He explained the reason was his mother’s death. Yet, they didn’t allow him in. “I applied for a visa, but they refused. I told them about my mother’s passing. Still, they said no,” he said.

Since he couldn’t attend, Sami watched his mother’s funeral on a WhatsApp video. “I wasn’t able to go. I saw the full janaza online,” he said, emotional and heartbroken.

It was on March 13, 2001 when Sami came to India on a visitor visa. Over time, he extended his stay. His Pakistani passport expired in 2015 and wasn’t renewed. He then applied for legal residency and became an Indian citizen in 2016.
