Ridley Scott has teased a third installment in the Gladiator series. With Gladiator II set to debut in November, Scott revealed that the sequel takes place twenty years after the original and follows Lucius, a role played by Paul Mescal. The film will feature Denzel Washington and Pedro Pascal as well.
Director Ridley Scott has indicated that he is exploring the possibility of a third Gladiator movie.
Scott, who helmed the Oscar-winning Gladiator starring Joaquin Phoenix and Russell Crowe in 2000, is now looking forward to Gladiator II, set to be released in theaters globally this November.
In an interview with French magazine Premiere, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker revealed his intentions to complete the trilogy with an upcoming film.

“Actually, I’m already considering the possibility of Gladiator 3. I’m serious—I’ve sparked the idea,” Scott stated. “The ending of Gladiator II parallels The Godfather, with Michael Corleone faced with a role he never wanted, asking, ‘Now, Father, what should I do?’ Thus, the next film will center on a character who feels out of place in his circumstances,” he added.
Set twenty years after the events of the original film, Gladiator II stars Paul Mescal as an adult Lucius, a character previously played by Spencer Treat Clark.
The plot basically follows Lucius as he lives in the northern African region of Numidia, where his mother Lucilla sent him to escape the Roman Empire’s influence. But he’s compelled to enter the Colosseum and fight to restore glory to the people of Rome.
