Ranbir Kapoor Shares His Experience of Spending Three to Four Months in Chennai with AR Rahman for Rockstar’s Music

At the Red Sea Film Festival, Ranbir Kapoor shared his reflections on Rockstar (2011), a career-defining film for him.

In an emotional discussion, he talked about the creative process behind the movie and how it profoundly influenced his development.

Ranbir Kapoor reflected on his experience in Chennai with AR Rahman for the music of Rockstar, noting that the three to four months spent working together were so engaging that it never felt like a demanding task.

 

The Start of a Life-Changing Experience

Kapoor shared that Rockstar was a defining film in his career, noting that it significantly shifted public perception of him.

He acknowledged director Imtiaz Ali and composer A.R. Rahman for creating an environment that was profoundly motivating.

He mentioned that it was a privilege to spend three to four months in Chennai with Mr. Rahman, witnessing the creation of the film’s music.

Kapoor described the creative journey of the film as enchanting, noting the seamless collaboration between Ali’s direction and Rahman’s musical genius.

Kapoor further shared that in an actor’s journey, rare films naturally ignite inspiration. For Rockstar, the character, the music, and the teamwork all came together as powerful sources of motivation.

Immersing in Jordan’s Journey

Kapoor deeply engaged with Jordan’s emotions and challenges, embodying the character’s essence with authenticity. “The progression of the character and the story was so captivating that it never felt like a struggle.

It was an experience that unfolded naturally,” he shared, highlighting the rarity of such roles in an actor’s journey.”

 

The Magic of Shooting ‘Kun Faya Kun’

Kapoor recounted a cherished memory of filming the iconic ‘Kun Faya Kun’ scene at Delhi’s Nizamuddin Dargah. “We spent three days immersed in the atmosphere, and the spiritual energy of the place added a profound authenticity to the experience. It was truly enchanting,” he shared.
