Actress Neetu Chandra has filed a petition regarding the presence of vulgar and explicit songs in Bollywood. The case is scheduled for a hearing on March 28, 2025. On Friday, a session was conducted before a bench led by Acting Chief Justice Ashutosh Kumar at the Patna High Court.
The court has called on the central government to provide clarity on its stance regarding the issue.
It was simply highlighted that the case seemed to be a public interest litigation, focusing on the use of disrespectful language and harmful remarks in his Bhojpuri songs against women.
Neetu Chandra Files PIL Against Yo Yo Honey Singh’s ‘Maniac’ Over Alleged Abusive Content
The petitioner in the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) argues that Yo Yo Honey Singh’s song “Maniac” contains explicit content. The petition claims that the song portrays women in a degrading way, objectifying them and commercializing their image. It further asserts that the song reduces women to mere sex symbols.
It didn’t look nice to hear the use of double entendres in the song’s lyrics intensifies its vulgarity, having a harmful effect on children, women, and society at large. Moreover, the inclusion of Bhojpuri terms further degrades women, presenting them in a negative and disrespectful manner.
Currently, there are no laws governing the use of vulgar songs. The actress has submitted a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Patna High Court, alleging that Honey Singh’s song “Maniac” encourages vulgarity and objectifies women. The PIL also names lyricist Leo Grewal and Bhojpuri singers Ragini Vishwakarma and Arjun Ajanabi as part of the case.
The petition highlighted that while the Constitution of India guarantees the fundamental right to freedom of speech and expression, this right comes with certain restrictions.
It calls for legal action against those who breach these boundaries and emphasizes that they should be held accountable, with strict enforcement of regulations.
