In Companion, a new sci-fi thriller by director Drew Hancock, Jack Quaid and Sophie Thatcher take center stage.
The film weaves together sci-fi, horror, and thriller genres as it follows Iris, played by Thatcher, on a weekend trip that spirals into the unexpected. Advanced practical and digital effects highlight the robotic aspects of her character.
Drew Hancock’s Companion is set to deliver a unique sci-fi thriller experience. Starring Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid, the film offers a fresh take on a love story, blending sci-fi, horror, and thriller elements in an unexpected way.
In Companion, Iris, a young woman, embarks on a seemingly normal weekend trip with her boyfriend and his friends. What begins as an ordinary getaway quickly escalates into a series of shocking and grisly occurrences, defying the usual expectations of the genre.
Since a robot takes center stage in the story, Hancock and visual effects supervisor Jamison Goei used a creative approach, merging practical effects with digital enhancements to keep the visual style grounded and authentic.
As per a statement issued to ETimes, Goei mentioned that a major challenge in the film was depicting Iris’ robotic arm. He added, “I’m not a fan of excessive CGI, so I always try to advocate for practical effects whenever possible.
