The Virgin Tree at St. Vincent College in Delhi is the center of love rituals each Valentine’s Day. Yet, mere weeks later, Holika Dahan is marked by eerie sorrow, a student ends their life, allegedly claimed by a spirit tied to the tree.

With their name on the line and no answers in sight, the college authorities turn to Baba (Sanjay Dutt), a modern-day ghost hunter equipped with advanced gear to crack the case.

College student Shantanu (Sunny Singh), heartbroken from a recent betrayal, longs for genuine love. While dramatically pleading for sacchi mohabbat before the Virgin Tree, he’s unexpectedly rescued by a mysterious spirit named Mohabbat (Mouni Roy), who falls for him.

But Mohabbat, once deceived in love herself, isn’t fond of rivals—especially not Ananya, who’s now growing closer to Shantanu.

The narrative unfolds into an eclectic mix of thrills, laughter, romance, and emotion, building toward a bizarre climax that uncovers Mohabbat’s haunting past and an unexpected revelation involving Baba.

The Bhootnii Movie Review: Analysis of Script

While Sidhaant Sachdev and Vankush Arora attempt a fresh angle on horror-comedy, the film still leans heavily on familiar elements—scared sidekicks (Aasif Khan and BeYouNick), strange noises, and nightly frights. And in classic revenge-horror fashion, Mohabbat’s love morphs into hatred, especially when facing Ananya and Baba.

Injecting freshness into the narrative, the script includes scenes where Mohabbat confesses her undead nature to Shantanu, and Baba deploys his high-tech ghost-hunting gear. digital cameras, scanners, and monitors, across the campus. A faithful aide tracks the ghostly activities, helping Baba intervene and protect Shantanu and Ananya in critical moments.

The Bhootnii Movie Review: Star Performance

Mouni Roy puts in a sincere effort as the spirit, and Aasif Khan brings some life to his otherwise formulaic role. BeYouNick manages a few fitting reactions, but overall feels average. Sunny Singh, Palak Tiwari, and others seem to be simply going through the motions, offering nothing memorable.

This is Sanjay Dutt’s latest iteration of his ever-familiar Munna Bhai mode—a throwback trend not unlike Kareena Kapoor Khan’s years-long Poo hangover. As for the rest of the cast, they leave little to discuss.

The Bhootnii Movie Review: Music & Direction

While Sidhaant Sachdev, as a debut director and co-writer, does offer a fresh spin on the classic horror-comedy formula by adding elements of unrequited love, the large resources invested in this misstep could have been better used to develop a more solid and well-conceived drama with the same basic plot.

It’s best to avoid commenting on the songs, while Amar Mohile’s background score, as expected, is on the louder side.

The Bhootnii Movie Review: The Final Verdict

There’s little to praise here, whether it’s the comedy, horror, or romance, making The Bhootnii far less enticing than other Hindi horror comedies that I’d prefer to revisit.
