Pa Vijay’s Tamil horror film, featuring Raashii Khanna, Arjun Sarja, and Jiiva, incurs significant losses at the box office – final collection revealed

Film’s Overall Budget
Aghathiyaa, which is basically a horror action thriller, reportedly made on a budget of 20 to 25 crore, has only managed to recover 15.6% of its budget.
If the film’s budget reaches the higher end of the reported range, around 25 crore, the recovery could drop to as low as 12.48%!
Aghathiyaa Box Office Loss
Despite having a budget of 20 to 25 crore, Aghathiyaa earned just 3.12 crore at the box office, leading to a loss of 16 to 21 crore.
This amounts to a loss of around 64 to 84%, even though horror has been a trending genre since the previous year.
Horror Films Ruling Box Office
In 2024, horror films took over the box office, with a variety of genres making their mark. Psychological horrors like Shaitaan and Demonte Colony, supernatural thrillers like Munjya and Stree 2, and horror comedies such as Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Aranmanai 4 all became massive hits.
Despite its efforts, Aghathiyaa couldn’t perform well at the box office, facing tough competition from Sabdham, another Tamil horror thriller. Directed by Pa Vijay, the film has an IMDb rating of 5.1.
The official plot describes a group of entrepreneurs who uncover the sinister history of a mansion while attempting to turn it into a haunted house for profit.
