Wicked Box Office Japan: The Film On the Verge of Reaching Its First Big Milestone

Wicked earned around $1.1 million on March 16, 2025, marking a 19.2% decrease from the previous Saturday

It looks like the film is against the 44th Doraemon movie and the new release A Girl and Her Guard Dog. Fans are eagerly awaiting the second installment, set to premiere later this year.

Since its 2003 Broadway debut, Wicked has been a tremendous success, with a stellar cast contributing to its achievement. Iconic tracks like Defying Gravity and Popular have become fan favorites, ensuring a nostalgic and powerful soundtrack

Well, movies like The Greatest Showman and Les Misérables have demonstrated the strong popularity of musical adaptations. According to Luiz Fernando’s report, Doraemon: Nobita’s Art World has regained the #1 position, earning roughly $1.4 million on its second Saturday.

Wicked actually sees a 28.3% drop from the previous Saturday, bringing its total to $7.4 million in Japan.

In contrast, Wicked accumulated an estimated $1.1 million yesterday, with a smaller decline of 19.2% compared to last Saturday.

The film which is largely known as the Ariana Grande’s movie has now grossed $7.3 million in Japan, surpassing the total earnings of Dune, which made $6.7 million according to Box Office Mojo.

Despite kicking off its second weekend at #1, the film slipped to #2 by Saturday at the box office.

A Girl and Her Guard Dog secured the #3 position, earning an estimated $425K on Saturday. Meanwhile, Doraemon is expected to generate between $3.1 million and $3.4 million during its 2nd weekend.

In contrast, Wicked is projected to earn between $2.5 million and $2.8 million during its second three-day weekend in Japan.

 

The musical fantasy is edging closer to the $10 million mark and could potentially hit that target by the end of the weekend. Wicked premiered in Japan on March 7.
