Sharing his vision, producer Namit Malhotra spoke about what inspired him to bring the epic Ramayana to life in a way never seen before. It’s directed by none other than Nitesh Tiwari. The film basically features Ranbir Kapoor as Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash portraying Raavan.

Namit Malhotra opened up about his dream of transforming Ramayana into a grand visual experience for global audiences.

Namit Malhotra Shares Vision for Ramayana’s Global-Scale Adaptation

On Prakhar Gupta’s podcast, Namit Malhotra spoke about how his childhood fascination with cinema, especially Jurassic Park. And this is what actually inspired him so as to pursue his dream of filmmaking. “The scale of it stunned me. I remember thinking, ‘How do you even make something like this?’ That’s when the dream began,” he added.

The recent writers’ strike in Hollywood offered Namit a rare moment of introspection. It mainly prompted him to reevaluate his career and the global treatment of Indian storytelling.

This is how Namit reflected, “What struck me was how the most globally recognized Indian films like Slumdog, Gandhi, Lion, and even RRR, often showed us in a position of weakness.

That’s not my truth. I needed a story that reflects strength, legacy, and spiritual richness. That’s where Ramayana came in India’s story of greatness and universal relevance.”

For years, Namit Malhotra has been an industry heavyweight who remained unknown to the cinema world. Now, with Prime Focus and DNEG contributing to the visual brilliance of Oscar-winning films like Dune, Oppenheimer, and Interstellar.

But Ramayana marks a turning point and helped to maintain his transition into a creative force leading a bold mission to retell India’s story and elevate its global cinematic identity.

 

About Ramayana

This ambitious retelling of Ramayana will unfold in as many as two cinematic chapters, beginning with a Diwali 2026 release and concluding in 2027.

The film brings together the film’s cast in the form of Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Ravie Dubey as Laxman, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, and Ranbir Kapoor as Ram.

Adding to its global appeal is the epic musical score by A.R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer, the latter stepping into Bollywood for the first time.
