The BFI Fellowship will be awarded to Tom Cruise during the BFI Chair’s Dinner in London on Monday, May 12, hosted by BFI Chair Jay Hunt. The day before, Cruise will participate in a special “In Conversation” event at BFI Southbank, where he will reflect on his lasting impact on cinema, including his work on the Mission: Impossible series.

By choosing to film in the U.K., Tom Cruise has played a key role in supporting local talent and creating jobs across the region. Graduates from the BFI Film Academy and the BFI Future Skills Programme contributed to the making of the most recent Mission: Impossible movies.

“It’s a tremendous honor to receive this recognition,” the actor said. “I’ve been fortunate to create films in the U.K. for more than 40 years, and I have every intention of continuing. The U.K. is home to outstanding talent  actors, filmmakers, writers, and crews,  along with some of the most breathtaking locations globally. I’m incredibly thankful to the BFI for their unwavering support of U.K. filmmaking and the art of cinema.”

As reflected in his original statement, Tom Cruise has a strong and lasting connection to the UK film industry. Many of his Mission: Impossible installments, including the latest Mission: Impossible 8, were filmed in the UK. From climbing renowned landmarks in London to executing awe-inspiring aerial stunts, his partnership with the UK film sector has been key to the development and success of the Mission: Impossible franchise.

“We are honored to present Tom Cruise with a BFI Fellowship,” BFI Chair Jay Hunt shared. “Tom has significantly contributed to the UK as a producer, choosing to film many of his projects here and collaborating with our skilled crews to bring his creative visions to life. His work not only showcases our studios and stunning locations on an international scale but also creates jobs and inspires upcoming filmmakers. Beyond his production achievements, Tom is one of the most remarkable actors of his generation—a true star who captivates audiences as an action hero, a romantic lead, and in bold, unexpected roles that highlight his incredible talent and range.”

Don’t miss out on May 23, 2025! Watch it in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, and English, with immersive options in IMAX and 4DX.
