Matilda De Angelis On Starring In Citadel: Diana, the Italian Spy series: “I was Immediately Captivated By This World”
In a dystopian version of Milan, eight years after the fall of the independent spy agency Citadel, Diana Cavalieri is living a dangerous life as a double agent within the ranks of Manticore, a powerful syndicate.
Her precarious situation takes a sharp turn when she encounters a rare opportunity to flee and disappear from this dangerous world for good. However, her escape plan hinges on an unlikely partnership with Edo Zani, the heir of Manticore Italy, someone she would never have considered trusting under normal circumstances.
Matilda De Angelis, who stars as the lead character Diana in Citadel: Diana, expressed her enthusiasm for the role in a recent interview. Reflecting on her first encounter with directors Gina and Arnaldo, she recalled, “I remember walking into the meeting and being shown all the amazing sets, props, and weapons—they instantly pulled me into this world.” She went on to say that the experience was unique for an Italian actor, as the spy genre is still largely untapped in Italy.
After reading the script, De Angelis recognized the enormous challenge of portraying Diana, noting that the role required significant physical preparation, which became a major motivator for her to accept the part.
The actor’s dedication and excitement for this demanding role signal her commitment to bringing a fresh perspective to the expanding Citadel universe.
The film has been Arnaldo Catinari and penned by Alessandro Fabbri, Citadel: Diana is set to innovate the spy genre with its captivating plot.
The series showcases an exceptional cast, including Maurizio Lombardi, Lorenzo Cervasio, and Matilda De Angelis promising a thrilling combination of action and striking visuals.
Produced by Cattleya, which is part of ITV Studios, in conjunction with Amazon MGM Studios, and with the Russo Brothers’ AGBO and David Weil at the helm as executive producers, this Italian installment of the Citadel series is designed to engage and excite audiences. The show is slated for a global release on Prime Video on October 10.
