After an extended lockdown, Tamil Nadu (TN) government has finally given permission to the movie makers to release their films in theatres.
It’s because all movie halls are going to open in the state from November 10, 2020.
This is the time that looks quite feasible for Kollywood movies producers, distributors and directors to release their films at this point of time when Diwali is near.
Hearing the above news, filmmakers look quite excited to release their films in theatres.
They are also confident that they will be able to cash their films as the audience now likes to change their mood and this is how they can do it right away.
At the same time, there are some producers, movie makers and exhibitors who still look quite optimistic about the opening of movie halls from November 10.
The state government has ordered to open theatres on the said date but has also directed that the attendance should not go beyond 50% mark.
Some of the movies that are going to be released include Ponram’s Sasikumar-starrer MGR Magan, Jiiva-Arulnithi-starrer Kalathil Sandhippom and Santhosh P Jayakumar’s Irandam Kuthu starring himself in the pivotal roles.
There are some films that seem to have not been able to earn as expected. As per the latest Bollywood news, a medium budget film titled like Kalathil Sandhippom is expected to recover some costs across the state.
This is what the makers have to say, “We are well aware of the fact that we can look forward only to Tamil Nadu market. But we are taking a risk, though a final confirmation is yet to be made by the producer in a day’s tine.
Unlike a big budget film, a small or medium budget project could afford to release with 50 percent occupancy. I’m sure youngsters will come to theatres followed by family audience in a few days or weeks’ time.”
On the other hand, Santhosh says, “We are most likely to release our film on Saturday, on Deepavali day. During the normal times, we used to get 250-300 screens.
Now sine there aren’t big films, we may get close to 500 screens as there are around 1,000 screens in the state. So, I think 50 percent occupancy should be fine for us. We will be making an official announcement after completing the theatre agreement process in a week.”
One of the exhibitors named Ruban Mathivanan says he likes to open both the screens depending on the content. Look what he says, “We will be following the SOPs issued by the government. I think there will be enough audience for the 50 percent occupancy. We will take call on the daily number of shows and allotment after knowing the number of films which will release.”
While most producers and distributors look confident to release their films, there are some who do not like the idea and are in the conversation with the right people.
For example, SR Prabhu says both the parties should be ready before theatres are finally opened. “Though producers took a stand that they will not pay VPF, the topic will be discussed in the coming days.” He says.
