Jon Watts Steps Down As Director of Marvel’s Fantastic Four Reboot

As per the recent turn of events, Spiderman director Jon Watts has detached himself from directing MCU’s Fantastic Four reboot film.

Watts is credited to have made a highly successful films like Spider-Man: No Way Home, Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: Homecoming for Marvel Studios (MCU) and Sony Pictures. But now, he has withdrawn from the MCU project.

 

Jon Watts Steps Down As Director of Marvel’s Fantastic Four Reboot

After his decision to step down as the director of Marvel’s fantastic Four Reboot, Jon Watts chose to interact with The Hollywood Reporter. In his statement, he stated that Spider-Man films were a life changing and incredible experience for him.

This is what he further stated, “I’m eternally grateful to have been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for seven years. I’m hopeful we’ll work together again, and I can’t wait to see the amazing vision for Fantastic Four brought to life.” he said.

While Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige, in a separate statement said, “Collaborating with Jon on the Spider-Man films has been a true pleasure. We were looking forward to continuing our work with him to bring the Fantastic Four into the MCU but understand and are supportive of his reasons for stepping away. We are optimistic that we will have the opportunity to work together again at some point down the road,” this is what Louis D’Esposito, co-president, Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige, president, Marvel Studios said in their joint statement.

Fantastic Four were actually the part of 20th Century Fox’s stable of Marvel superheroes before the stake of Disney in the year 2019.

Fiege had earlier announced that Jon Watts would have to direct a Fantastic Four reboot for Marvel Studios in the year 2020. Since then no release date was announced.

As per a report from Deadline, Sony has approached Watts to return for the upcoming Tom Holland-led Spider-Man film.

On the professional front, Jon Watts looks keen to write and direct a film reuniting Brad Pitt and George Clooney at Apple Studios. In addition to this, Watts will also be making a new film in the Final Destination horror franchise for HBO Max and New Line Cinema.
