The film has earned Rs 60 crore nett domestically and continues to draw audiences. Furthermore, it was reported that the sequel crossed the Rs 100 crore mark worldwide within 48 hours of its release
L2: Empuraan hit theatres on March 27 amidst high expectations, but soon faced controversy over its subtle allusions to the Gujarat riots. The backlash from audiences led the filmmakers to release an edited version of the film.
Empuraan has shown impressive box office performance despite the controversy surrounding its content. With a record-breaking opening of Rs 21 crore nett, it became the highest-grossing Malayalam film on opening day.
Empuraan Box Office Day 4
In just four days, the film has accumulated Rs 59.35 crore domestically, and with the extended Eid holiday and ongoing discussions, it’s expected to see a further boost in its earnings.
On Sunday, Empuraan brought in Rs 14 crore nett at the Indian box office, showing strong numbers according to Sacnilk. The real test for the film will be its performance during the weekdays after the Eid festivities wind down.
Here is the day-wise net box office collection for L2: Empuraan in India
- Day 1: Rs 21 crore
- Day 2: Rs 11.1 crore
- Day 3: Rs 13.25 crore
- Day 4: Rs 14 crore
Total: Rs 59.35 crore
As per early estimates from Sacnilk, the bulk of Empuraan’s box office earnings in India came from the Malayalam version. On Sunday, the film grossed Rs 14 crore nett, with Rs 13 crore generated by the Malayalam version alone.
The remaining Rs 1 crore came from the film’s Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada versions combined.
L2: Empuraan basically serves as the sequel to Lucifer, which was Prithviraj Sukumaran’s directorial debut. The movie features Mohanlal in the lead, with key roles played by Suraj Venjaramoodu, Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, Abhimanyu Singh, Prithviraj Sukumaran, and other prominent actors.
