L2: Empuraan Sets A New Benchmark, Crossing Rs 100 Crore Globally In Just Two Days—The Fastest for A Malayalam Film

Prithviraj Sukumaran and Mohanlal’s powerful collaboration has delivered yet another hit, with L2: Empuraan crossing Rs 60 crore at the global box office on its first day.

The Lucifer sequel has made history as the fastest Malayalam film to join the Rs 100 crore club and the tenth to achieve this milestone. Domestically, it earned over Rs 40 crore, surpassing several Bollywood films this year.

The makers shared a post celebrating the milestone, stating, ‘The Cicada himself. Empuraan surpasses Rs 100 crore worldwide in less than 48 hours, creating new records in cinematic history.

We sincerely thank everyone for making this achievement possible!’ L2: Empuraan has now joined the ranks of iconic Malayalam films like 2018, Aadujeevitham, Pulimurugan, Premalu, Lucifer, and Manjummel Boys, all of which are part of the Rs 100 crore club.

Empuraan broke records for Malayalam cinema in India, earning over Rs 20 crore on its opening day, with a strong turnout from Kerala audiences. It overtook Rekhachitram, which had previously held the second-best opening at Rs 1.9 crore.

The film is now on the brink of becoming the highest-grossing Malayalam movie of 2025, set to surpass Officer on Duty.

With Rs 4 crore generated through advance bookings for the weekend, its total collection has already crossed Rs 30 crore.

L2: Empuraan happens to be a gripping tale set amidst political upheaval and international schemes, following the interconnected lives of two men as their destinies clash across regions.

With power struggles erupting in Kerala and on a global scale, the narrative uncovers hidden truths, unresolved feuds, and old scars. This action thriller delves into themes of vengeance, redemption, and the high cost of power in a web of lies.

Well, this is Mohanlal’s third 100-crore blockbuster, following Pulimurugan and Lucifer. With the Eid 2025 long weekend approaching, the film is anticipated to break more records and enter the list of the top five highest-grossing Malayalam films of all time.
