Cheating Surge In Modern Warfare 3 Following Xbox Game Pass Release

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Following its release on Xbox Game Pass, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has encountered a rise in cheaters. CharlieINTEL, reporting on X (formerly Twitter), notes that there’s been a significant increase in cheating since the game joined Game Pass. Many of these cheaters can be recognized by the Xbox logo appearing in their game lobbies.

Activision has not yet addressed the surge in cheaters that has accompanied the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on Xbox Game Pass.

The availability of the game to a larger audience—34 million Game Pass users as of February 2024—likely explains the uptick in cheating. The challenge now is to implement effective bans and measures to prevent cheaters from re-entering the game.

Ahead of Modern Warfare 3’s release, Activision highlighted that its Ricochet anti-cheat system uses machine learning and a combination of client and server-side tools to tackle cheating.

In the period leading up to the game, Ricochet had removed over 80,000 accounts for cheating in Modern Warfare 2.

Expect Activision to release a blog post soon addressing the cheating issue, outlining their countermeasures, and providing updates on the number of additional bans.

Currently, Modern Warfare 3 players will have to deal with the rise in cheaters.
