The Star Wars franchise is rich with iconic villains, and they frequently appear in its numerous video games.

Notably, these villains often make guest appearances in other titles as well, such as Darth Vader appearing as a playable character in Soul Calibur IV and Emperor Palpatine delivering a broadcast in Fortnite.

Several Star Wars villains first appeared in video games rather than in movies, comics, or TV shows.

Some hail from newer titles, while others date back to when only the classic trilogy was around. Here’s a look at the most memorable Star Wars villains who made their debut in video games.

10 HK-47 (Knights of the Old Republic)

A Menacing Robotic Assassin & Jedi Pursuer

Though HK-47 isn’t a Sith, he remains a formidable threat to the Jedi. This ruthless droid, infamous for his grim humor and referring to living beings as “meatbags,” was originally designed by Darth Revan to eliminate Jedi.

Despite his deadly efficiency in combat, HK-47’s narrative shifts when his memories are erased and he ends up serving the Jedi.

9 Bode Akuna (Jedi: Survivor)

A Rugged Scoundrel Turned Devious Betrayer

A deeply affecting moment in recent Star Wars games is the storyline of Bode Akuna, a Han Solo-like figure in Star Wars: Jedi Survivor. At first, he is an essential ally to Cal Kestis, helping him stay one step ahead of the Empire.

By the third act, however, Bode—a Force-sensitive smuggler with a jetpack—betrays Cal, wrongly believing it to be the best way to protect himself and his daughter, Kata, from Imperial forces. The betrayal results in a heart-wrenching duel where Kestis ultimately kills Bode, leading to a sorrowful conclusion for their once-close alliance.

8 The Second Sister, aka Trilla Suduri

A Formidable Villain with a Distressing Past

The Second Sister continues the theme of villains like Darth Vader and Kylo Ren, who are corrupted by outside influences rather than being inherently evil. Her backstory reveals she was once a Jedi, betrayed by her own master and later brainwashed by the Empire.

In Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, she makes a dramatic entrance by killing Cal Kestis’ friend Prauf and easily defeating Kestis himself. Despite being a significant adversary throughout the game, she ultimately seeks redemption after a climactic battle with Kestis, only to be killed by Darth Vader.

7 Darth Sion (KOTOR 2)

A Menacing Sith Lord with Dreadful Resolve

Darth Sion, dubbed ‘The Lord of Pain,’ earned this fearsome title through a dark and unsettling history. After sustaining fatal injuries in combat, he discovered he could keep his body intact by combining the Dark Side with sheer determination.

Utilizing his profound pain, fear, and anger, he resurrected himself from near death. His appearance, which resembles that of a zombie rather than a classic Sith Lord, along with his ability to endure immense suffering, makes him one of the most enduring and intimidating adversaries in the Star Wars saga.

6 Desann (Jedi Knight 2)

A Jedi Master’s Disciple Who Succumbed to the Dark Side

Guided by Luke Skywalker, Desann seemed destined for success until a pivotal moment of anger led him to kill a fellow padawan, sealing his turn to the Dark Side. This pivotal event sparked a dramatic narrative that ultimately ended with his death at the hands of Kyle Katarn.

Desann’s role as the main antagonist in Jedi Outcast is fitting. Originally a solitary figure due to his sensitivity to the Force, he transformed into a menacing bully during his training and later led a rebellion against the New Republic, aiming to establish a new army of Dark Jedi.

5 Gideon Hask (Battlefront 2)

A Brutal Warmonger Loyal to the Empire

Gideon Hask might not have joined the Imperial military if his parents hadn’t been killed in an Alliance bombing raid. Nevertheless, fate led him to enlist, and he advanced through the ranks to become a leading figure in the Empire’s infamous Inferno Squadron.

In Star Wars Battlefront II, Hask is the primary antagonist, and his background is equally intriguing. After the fall of the Death Star, he joins a group of rogue Imperials who eventually go on to establish The First Order.

4 General Rom Mohc (Dark Forces)

The Malevolent Imperial General Orchestrating a Destructive Scheme

Rom Mohc in Star Wars DarkForces

Rom Mohc is a key figure from the Star Wars Expanded Universe, now classified as Star Wars Legends following Disney’s re-canonization of the franchise. He stands out as one of the major villains introduced after the original trilogy.

Mohc’s notable contribution was spearheading the Dark Trooper project, a significant threat featured in the Dark Forces game. He also served as a model for Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian. Fans of Dark Forces will remember the dramatic scene where Mohc interacts with Darth Vader, and like Gideon, he ultimately suits up in the iconic Dark Trooper armor for combat.

3 Grand Admiral Thrawn (Tie Fighter)

A Relentless Tactician and Nemesis of the Rebel Alliance

Thrawn stands out as a top-tier villain, known for his distinctive red eyes and blue complexion. As the commander of the Empire’s remaining forces after its downfall, he was a major thorn in the side of the Rebel Alliance.

First introduced in the Expanded Universe, Thrawn’s significant fan following led to his inclusion in the official canon. He has appeared in numerous novels and video games, and later made notable appearances in the animated series Star Wars Rebels and the live-action series Ahsoka.

2 Darth Malak (KOTOR)

A Dreaded Enemy of the Old Republic

Malak, a predecessor to Darth Vader, was once a brave Jedi Knight whose fate changed dramatically after an encounter with a former Sith Emperor.

This meeting led him to the Dark Side under the Emperor’s influence. His story took a darker turn when a lightsaber attack shattered his jaw, leaving him with a fearsome metal replacement.

1 Darth Nihilus (KOTOR 2)

A Terrifying Entity with Formidable Strength

Darth Nihilus stands out for a few key reasons. His haunting appearance makes him look more like a spectral figure than a typical Sith Lord.

His terrifying ability to consume the life force of all living things, which has earned him the name “The Lord of Hunger,” underscores his menacing presence. Additionally, his notable role in the Star Wars universe further cements his significance.
