Ever since the James Cameron’s directed Avatar 2 announced, it gave fans a reason to enjoy. Avatar: The Way of Water will arrive in theatres in December 2022.
The latest about the film is that Avatar has become the first film to surpass $2.9 billion mark at the global box office.
This grand success largely owes to the film’s re-release in more than 40 markets ahead of the release of Avatar: The Way of Water in December.
The film managed to grab $18 million in the domestic market and $39 million from the overseas locations.

As per reports, the makers decided to re-release Avatar 2 mainly to generate the much needed hype with Pandora and the story of Jake and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña).
It’s because of the recent re-release of the film that it has managed to surpass yet another historic box office milestone.
According to the official numbers posted, Avatar 2 has made $2.9 billion out of which it earned $779 billion domestically and $2.13 billion internationally.
Avatar touched another milestone despite becoming the highest-grossing movie of all time.
It was the film’s domestic total remained the fourth highest behind that of films like Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Avengers: Endgame, and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Avatar 2’s Box Office Collection As Compared to the Original Movie
Avatar 2 (Avatar: The Way of Water) has come after a gap of 13 years from the release of the original Avatar. And now, it would be a litmus test for the film to check if the audience still like to return to the world of Pandora.
Among several queries that one has, the crucial thing was that if the film manages to generate the same momentum that it showed at the time of the original Avatar.
And the recent re-release of Avatar clearly suggests that audiences are still interested to watch the Cameron’s epic story.
As per an estimate, Avatar: The Way of Water is expected to collect $650 domestically.
However, it’s being expected that Avatar 2 may not reach to a level of what the original Avatar made the collections.
