As per a news published in Times of India, Vijay Sethupathi got emotional while speaking with the late director of the film during a press meet for his upcoming film Laabam.
While speaking about the director of the film late SP Jhananathan, the actor got emotional. The film is slated to release on September 9, 2021.
He was not only promoting his film but also discussing some pleasant memories he spent with the late director. In his short speech, he said that he mainly felt like a sinner for not able to spend more time with him.
“I wish I had spent more time with director SP Jhananathan. I didn’t know that time was such a curse. Had I known, I would have spent more time with the late director,” Sethupathi said.
Vijay Sethupathi further elaborated about the deep bonding he had with the director. And this is what he stated, “Director SP Jhananathan and I had great understanding and love for one another. It was something like a father-son relationship. You don’t realize its significance when the person is there. If you have someone you cherish, please express your admiration and love for them.”
The actor later stated that he wish to give the entire credit for making such a film to the director. “If this film has come out well, the credit for it must all go to the late SP Jananathan sir.” he said.
Sethupathi later said that the late director always believed that cinema is not a mere source of entertainment but is way more than that. “He used to say that cinema makes people think and change. We come across so many instances in which people have said, “This scene changed me or this scene got me thinking.” Art leads people to think and change. Therefore, he thought it was wrong to call cinema as just entertainment,” he recalled.
