Salman Khan’s Sikandar made Rs 26 crore on its opening day, despite receiving a mixed reception and battling piracy concerns.

The film’s prospects depend on positive word-of-mouth and consistent box office growth, especially during the upcoming Eid holiday.

Salman Khan’s highly anticipated action thriller Sikandar kicked off its run at the domestic box office with an estimated Rs 26 crore on its opening day

Sikandar finally made its debut with a slightly underwhelming performance, though it still ranked as the eighth-highest opening for a Salman Khan film.

Released on Sunday just before the Eid holiday, the film recorded a Hindi occupancy rate of 21.60% on March 30.

Morning screenings started slow at 13.76%, while evening shows saw a rise to 25%. However, there was a slight drop during the night shows, with occupancy falling to 23.55%.

Although the film had solid pre-sales and was anticipated to benefit from strong spot bookings thanks to Khan’s huge fan following and its mass appeal

The mixed reactions from viewers impacted its box office performance. Trade analysts had forecasted an opening between Rs 25-26 crore net, which ultimately proved accurate.

Sikandar Movie Review

Although the film had solid pre-sales and was anticipated to benefit from strong spot bookings thanks to Khan’s huge fan following and its mass appeal, the mixed reactions from viewers impacted its box office performance.

Trade analysts had forecasted an opening between Rs 25-26 crore net, which ultimately proved accurate.

When stacked up against Salman Khan’s past blockbusters, Sikandar came close to Bajrangi Bhaijaan’s (2015) opening of Rs 26.67 crore, but didn’t quite reach it.

However, it did outperform Kick (2014) with Rs 24.97 crore and Dabangg 3 (2019) at Rs 22.29 crore. Despite releasing on a Sunday ahead of the Eid holiday, the opening numbers have been seen as less than impressive.

Further complicating its box office performance, Sikandar was hit by piracy within hours of its release. Multiple illegal platforms, including Telegram groups, allegedly shared the film online, offering unauthorized downloads and streaming options.

Commenting on the situation, film trade analyst Komal Nahta pointed out, “Usually, films are pirated a week or two after their release, but in this case, it happened on day one.

If a Salman Khan film is accessible for free on mobile phones right from the release, why would people go to theaters?”

Given the Eid holiday on Monday, Sikandar must show strong performance to make up for its slow start. The film’s future success now relies on favorable word-of-mouth and sustained box office growth over the coming week. Directed by AR Murugadoss, it also stars Rashmika Mandanna in a key role.
