Ralph Ahn Who Played the Role of Tran On ‘New Girl’, Dies At 95

Ralph Ahn who’s best known for his role of Tran in television series ‘New Girl’ has died at the age of 95. According to the latest update, Ahn died on February 26 but no further details could be provided.

Ralph rose to fame by enacting in various shows. His career lasted around 65 years. Some of his 1965 shows include “China Smith”, “21 Beacon Street”, “Terry and the Pirates”. Some of his recent popular shows include the names like Walker, Texas Ranger, “The Shield”, “ER”, “Gilmore Girls”, and many more.

Out of the several shows listed above, Ralph Ahn is most popularly remembered for his role as Tran. In this TV series, he played the role of an interesting grandfather who always loves to smile. The show co-lead Nick Miller (Jake Johnson), on the popular sitcom.

As per an update, Ralph Ahn appeared in as many as 7 episodes of the show which was headlined by Zooey Deschanel, its 2011-18 run.

 

Ralph Ahn Played A Variety of Characters In Shows

He had to play the character of someone who speaks very less. And so, Ahn had to speak only two lines of his dialogues.

He first got the chance to make entry into the show from 2nd season of the show when Johnson’s Nick befriends Tran at the park and seeks guidance from him. Nick soon refers to him as his “magical best friend”.

There were many celebrities who payed their tributes for the loss of Ralph Ahn. One of them was Johnson who paid his tribute on Instagram. He said he always hoped to work with him one day.

This is what he wrote, “RIP. So much fun to work with. He gave so much with literally no lines. I loved when he was on set. I was always expecting to somehow work with him again. Condolences to his family/friends,” he wrote on Monday.

Deschanel also commented giving response to the Johnson’s post. The actress commented by posting a crying emoji. She wrote, “Noooooo.”

The real name of Ralph Ahn is Ahn Phil-yeong who was born on September 28, 1926 in Los Angeles (LA). As per the update, he was the youngest of his parents Ahn Chang-ho who’s known to be a Korean activist who happened to be one of the earliest immigrants to the USA.

The actor served to the US Navy during World War II while following his brother Philip.

Some other TV shows of Ralph Ahn include “The Good Life”, “Suddenly Susan”, and “The Division”.

He also appeared giving big screen surprise to his fans including Mel Brooks’ “Life Stinks”, “Younger and Younger”, “Let It Rise”, “The Perfect Weapon”, “Amityville: A New Generation”, and “Lawnmower Man 2: Beyond Cyberspace”.
