Poovachal Khader who was a renowned Malayalam poet and lyricist died after battling from COVID-19 complication. He was 73. He is credited to have penned a plethora of romantic melodies between 1970s and 80s.

Khader was undergoing treatment of pneumonia after developing coronavirus infection. As per the family sources, he died while undergoing COVID-19 treatment at the government medical college hospital in Thiruvananthapuram.

Even though Poovachal Khader is not with us, he will be still remembered for his impeccable contribution towards Malayalam cinema. During his lifetime, he gave so many hit and evergreen songs for the Malayalam audience.

He worked in as many as 400 movies and created almost 1500 melodious songs in a span of five decades.

Some of the evergreen Malayalam songs penned by Khader include “Natha nee varum” (Chamaram), “Etho janma kalpanayil” (Palangal), “Anuragini itha en” (Oru Kudakkeezhil) and “Poomaname” (Nirakoottu).

Khader was born on December 25, 1948 in a small village Poovachal in the present time. It falls in the Thiruvananthapuram district.

Before becoming a lyricist and started working for Malayalam cinema, he worked as an engineer in the government sector.

It was in the year 1972 when he first started penning lyrics for a movie in Mollywood. Since then he managed to establish himself as a prominent lyricist in the Malayalam cinema.

He’s credited to have penned several songs for legends like S Janaki, P Jaychandran, K J Yesudas and many more.

In addition to this, he also worked for a number of eminent filmmakers like I V Sasi, K G George, P N Menon, Padmarajan and Bharathan during his impressive career that lasted for over five decades.

As a recognized author, Khader is also credited to have written a number of radio songs and Mappila as well. His family includes his wife Amina Beevi and two daughters.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan called the demise of Poovachal Khader as a great loss to the society.

The CM called him as a kind of lyricist who managed to receive incredible acceptance among people.
