In a recent episode of The Kardashians, Kim revealed that she plans to give North her first engagement ring from ex-husband Kanye West, a heartfelt gesture with quite a significant emotional value.
Kim Kardashian’s Priceless Keepsake From the Past
During her visit to India for Anant Ambani’s $600 million wedding with Khloe last year, Kim Kardashian opened up about the emotional significance of her engagement ring.
This is how she explained, “The first ring I got engaged with Kanye was a cushion cut, and it was the only piece of jewelry I didn’t take to Paris,” alluding to the harrowing robbery she went through in 2016.
Well, the Skims founder experienced a terrifying robbery at gunpoint, with thieves making off with over $10 million in jewelry from her apartment at the prestigious Hotel de Pourtalès in Paris.
The Sentimental Importance of the Ring
Kim Kardashian was gifted a 15-carat diamond ring by Kanye West on her 33rd birthday in October 2013. Designed by the famous jeweler Lorraine Schwartz, the ring came just months after the couple welcomed their first child, North.
The ring along with the proposal happened to be a momentous event in Kim’s life. She holds dear the memory of North, just a few months old at the time, gently holding the ring after the proposal, which made the piece even more meaningful to her.
Kim shared, “I’m going to give that one to Northie because she was with me when I got engaged. She held the ring afterward, and I took a photo. She was only a few months old at the time.”
Kanye West Gave Kim Kardashian a Warning Before the Robbery
Soon after the engagement, Kanye upgraded Kim’s ring to a 20-carat emerald-cut diamond, also crafted by Lorraine Schwartz. However, he expressed worry about her wearing both rings in public. “Kanye looked at it and said, ‘Never wear both of your rings together. Are you asking to get robbed?’” Kim Kardashian shared during the event.
Following the Paris robbery, the mother-of-four adopted a more cautious approach to her jewelry, choosing to borrow luxury pieces rather than purchase them.
The unsettling experience prompted her to pare down her collection, marking a shift in her perspective on luxury. Although Kim and Kanye’s marriage ended in 2021, the memories they created together continue to play a significant role in her life.
