Elizabeth Olsen comes out in support of Scarlett Johansson who’s currently pursuing a legal battle with Disney over the OTT release of her film Black Widow.
Olsen was recently speaking regarding the cons of COVID-19 pandemic on the release of films. This was the time when she also chose to speak about Johansson’s recent lawsuit file against Disney.
This is what Olsen explained, “I think she’s so tough and literally when I read that I was like, ‘Good for you Scarlett. When it comes to actors and their earnings, I mean, that’s just, that’s just all contracts. So it’s either in the contract or it’s not,” she said.
It all happened when Johansson realized that her contact with Disney was breached. And so, she sued the parent company of Marvel’s Black Widow. In her statement, the actress further stated that her film was made available simultaneously on the OTT platform at the time when the film hit theatres.
Jason Sudeikis who was also present and was a part of the interview stated her legal move to be like, “appropriately bad-ass and on-brand.”
Olsen in her statement added that she’s equally concerned for movies released on OTT platforms as this change gives films a kind of negative effect, especially to small budget films.
“I would like to see art films and art house theatres, and so I do worry about that, and people having to keep these theatres alive. And I don’t know how financially that works for these theatres,” Olsen said.
The case had some latest development in the past such that Disney has also filed a private arbitration in the lawsuit. This is basically to address if she owed money from the hybrid release of the film in question.
Olsen, in the meanwhile is celebrating success of her stand-alone Marvel series ‘WandaVision’ on the OTT platform early this year. The series garnered loads of appreciation from fans and critics and became one of the most watchable shows.
The show was even picked for several Emmy Award nominations including the Best Actress category.
Scarlett Johansson is currently busy with her second child with husband Colin Jost.
