Dakota Johnson Slams Industry Gatekeepers: ‘Most Don’t Even Watch Movies’
Speaking on Hot Ones, Dakota Johnson described modern-day Hollywood as “a mess.” While promoting The Materialists, the actor criticized how creative decisions are often taken by people with little connection to cinema.
“It’s difficult when decisions come from committees made up of people who don’t even really watch films,” she said.
Johnson also commented on the industry’s obsession with remakes, arguing that audiences crave originality, not recycled stories.
Dakota Johnson hasn’t held back when discussing the industry’s shortcomings, especially after her 2024 comic book film Madame Web flopped. She remarked that many people involved in filmmaking “don’t have a creative bone in their body.”
Dakota Johnson Calls Out Hollywood: ‘It’s Kind of A Mess Right Now’
In a candid chat with the Los Angeles Times, Dakota Johnson reflected on her experience with Madame Web, saying it shifted from its original plan, and she ultimately had little influence over the final product.
After winning a Razzie for Worst Actress, she shared that Sandra Bullock, who famously won two Razzies in 2010, reached out with supportive words.
According to Johnson, Sandra Bullock sent her a voice note after the Razzie win, joking, “Looks like you’re in the Razzie Club. We should totally do a monthly brunch.”
Materialists, directed by Celine Song of Past Lives fame, features Dakota Johnson as Lucy, a matchmaker caught in a romantic dilemma between characters played by Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans. The film is garnering praise from critics.
